Wait for the Doc, or go to the Vet?

Walking my dog through a cloud of haymaking dust in a field yesterday an irritating speck entered my eye. This morning it has clearly caused a swelling/stye and nasty infection inside my lower lid so I'll have to ask the chemist for advice as my local health centre won't be  open til Monday and in any case, if I need one I'd probably not get an appointment for a couple of days.

My point is that it seems bizarre that if it was my dog I'd be able to take him to my vet today. I know I'd have to pay for that private service but then I do get seen (eventually) with the NHS through my taxes, which I pay every month whether I need the service or not (or whether I've ever contributed or not).

Just sayin' like.

Have to say I was not aware of these 'walk-in-centres' until quite recently. We were camping near Hereford when wife suddenly developed shingles.  Fortunately I had read the site information board where the service was 'advertised'.

(Apparently everyone locally knows it as the 'Asda walk in' .... just because it happens to be located in part of the same building as a huge Asda).

I was impressed also that when wife subsequently went to her own  GP, a few days later he already had the report from Hereford.

Similar to the best CL's then: A well-kept secret.

They'll never meet their waiting targets.

These days I'm anxious about my dog being stolen when leaving him unattended whilst I go into a shop in my village.
