Tumble Dryers - Important Notice

If you bought a Hotpoint, Creda or Indesit tumble dryer between 2004 and 2015, then there may be a fault which needs a free visit from a service engineer.

Apparently the problem is that fluff can build up and come into contact with the heating element causing a serious fire risk.

If you haven't received a letter (perhaps because of a change of address) then go to https://safety.hotpoint.eu to check whether your dryer is affected.

Ours is one of the affected models!

Please pass this information on to anyone who may also need to check.

Hi, my tumble dryer is also one of the affected models, I was contacted my Hotpoint just before Christmas and was advised that my tumble dryer would be replaced by a new upgraded Whirlpool model.  This sounded fine but they would only offer a white model, as all my appliances are graphite grey I enquired why it wasn't a like for like swap. The man on the phone said he wasn't authorised to offer any colour but white.  My son contacted Hotpoint via facebook and was told that I could get the correct colour but would have to wait longer as they were out of stock.  I have contacted them myself since but have yet to receive a reply.  I think some people have contacted Watchdog about the way this is being handled - if you are happy to take a white one you get a brand new upgraded model, if you're not, an engineer will come and do a repair.  It should be like for like. Sorry for such a long reply, if I hear anything more from Hotpoint I'll post it here.

I registered my details with Hotpoint weeks ago when the story first appeared in the newspapers. I received a phone call the next morning at 8-15 to confirm my details. I was expecting them to send an engineer to check the machine but was told they would replace it. Three days later a new tumble dryer was delivered. Very impressed with their customer service.

Valda, another thankyouHappy. Mine is on the list too. I've just been online to fill in my details. I didn't know it had a fluff collector-I've removed it, it looks like a big Teddy BearEmbarassed

Thanks for the info Valda, mine may be one if the ones affected, as we bought it in the time scale. Don't use it anymore and it is buried at the back of our garage, will have to get OH to clear up his stuff so I can check.

It's really important to empty fluff out of tumble dryers - these models or any others for that matter!  And that comes from years of experience of CoinOperated machines.

My dryer is 44 years old and the fluff collector long since gone but as it's in the garage and seldom used its fine there!  Must check the one I got my daughter - thanks for the heads up ValDa.

It's nice to know this is still on going after quite a few house fires in recent years the warnings have dropped out of the news recently

Sorry folks, but my tumble dryer is certified not to cause any fires, it costs me nothing for either buying a unit or paying for its upkeep.  Its called sun and freshair, oh, and a clothes lineHappy
