Sniffer, Diary of A Dog In Isolation!

Hi everyone. My first post as an independent canine Club Member. My human’s aren’t in total lock down yet, but are behaving a bit strangely, so I thought I’d take to this Web thing and give it a go.

We canines, and I suspect other chilled out cuties of the fur and feather kind know a thing about communicating. But just how are we going to do it if our walks are on lock down, those well loved paths and trails an ever decreasing source of scents and sniffs?

Well, compared to our highly developed, totally secret Sniffer channels, our humans finally developed what they call Twitter. It’s a crude, limited, easy to understand type of communication thing, but it might be worth putting up with something similar until we can physically get together and wag our way along those walks again.

So, if you want to share lockdown tips, keep in touch, add a photo, say hello to a mate you haven’t seen for a while, feel free to add something here, on the Sniffer thread! It would be good to hear from other confined canines, but in this special circumstances, anything that woofs, neighs, squeaks, grunts, moo’s, tweets.......ok, even meows, is most welcome to join in. Humans without anything furry or feathered, but who would like to join in are most welcome as well.

My bolshy human (not the quiet one) has told me that there is a special pet section, but advised me to ask the in charge humans on this Web thing to leave it here for a while, so that more of us highly developed communicators can find it easily and take part if they want to, maybe moving it in a few days time to the pet section.

I’d sign off in my usual way at the moment, but apparently it’s not good etiquette with anything electrical, so get those paws tapping and say hello........

😱 I forgot.......fish! Most welcome, but don’t get too close to the cats!

Oh dear! Glum pooch here. Noisy One had a dogastrophy yesterday, front wheel sheered off my chariot. Something called a weld had failed. Anyway, it caused a bit of huffing and puffing until we got back home.

Mr Fix it is on the case at the moment though, so hopefully I shall be trundling around again merrily later today.

There have been murmurings that it was something to do with my (not having any effect) diet, but I feel these are totally unfounded rumours, made up by someone who should know better in the dieting department!

Not all bad news though. I saw Grandma Cheese today, πŸ’•we took her some supplies up and lucky me, I got to go in the house. Noisy One had to sit outside for a chat. She’s banned, but not me!

Hi there all you canine friends, it’s Isla the West Highland Terrier here! This lockdown business is great for me and my brother Angus. We get loads of outside time instead of having to wait until our humans get home! It’s been a bit traumatic for me today though as mum decided I needed a haircut. I have to say though she didn’t do a bad job and hopefully I’ll stay a bit cleaner now. I’m just glad I don’t look like that poor dog from the Specsavers ad.

Its time for our exercise period now so we’re off to drag mum round the fields.

Take care of your humans and remind them to stay at home.

Isla

Hello Isla and Angus😁 It’s a rum do all this haircutting business isn’t it. There are some unusual home done cuts appearing this week now weather is warming up, not seen anything too drastic yet though. Unlike some of the humans who are starting to look a tad Catweazle if you get my drift!πŸ˜‚

Hope that Mr Fixit  can come up with a solution for your chariot, Sniffer. I did enjoy seeing t'other one trundling you along in it when we last met. I wasn't a bit jealous really!! I'm getting fit at the moment, with lots of runs off the lead as the old sport 's field are quite quiet. I seldom get a chance of a run up there as we're away in the big white boxy thing so often. I don't ever get a haircut, just a good brushing and combing, but I hate it when the not-so-gentle one tries to untangle the feathers down my front legs...ahhh!! The gentle one was able to get her hair cut the day after we got back from the last trip away, and she has the job of keeping what's left of t'other's short. Getting near time to drag him out again for my last trot on the field so see you again soon.

Arbuthnot back again!

I have visited my house and eaten of the food, I left a calling card so the fussy one knows πŸ˜€. But there may have been other visitors to my house and food bowl 😱😱. There are calling cards, in the house in 3 places including in the bowl as well as one on the patio well before the entrance!

Does anyone have any advice ideas or is this not a problem page?

Ps the fussy one spend an age watching a thrush bathing in the bird bath, she's very mixed about it. Was wonderful to see but thrushes always seem to portend bad luck in her experience - let's hope it's not the case this time! Shes never noticed one in the bird bath before so maybe it's a better omen?

Mr Fixit did indeed fix it! And it actually rolls much easier than it did, they think the front wheel might have been ever so slightly out of true. So emergency over, I can get out easily for a sniff.

Not getting bored yet at all, plenty of attention, I have lots of toys to play with. I am what’s known as a Reverse Labrador Retriever (quite rare). Instead of fetching things back to my human’s, I take my toys and leave them all over the garden, so it’s my human’s that do the retrieving bit. It’s very amusing watching them trying to find everything, especially if it’s raining, or something has “accidentally” been left in the pond!

I am lucky to have a couple of friends as well close by, Petal next door, who is rather shy, and doesn’t like me getting too close, but my new best buddy is Toby, next door but one. He is great at escaping, so calls round most days. We trashed Noisy one’s new pond yesterday, great fun!

A thrush! They are quite rare round us, so I think this is very good luck.

From personal experience, the hedgehog poo would be thought as a rare delicacy if I was around, it wouldn’t last long I can assure you! But it’s an acquired taste, and not for the dodgy stomach. Sadly, my innards have led me into some dreadful escapades, so not only do I get all the unfortunate veterinary visits, but I am literally in the doghouse, curt commands, no up close kisses, fewer cuddles......... My last big culinary adventure was a cracker. Pretty village in North Wales, riverside walks down to beach, and that’s where it all went pear shaped. I came across a long dead crab, a delicacy beyond my usual dreams. Humans were bird spotting, so only caught me on the last few mouthfuls. I was fine rest of day, but then 2am in morning......oh dear. I won’t go into details, but Mum has to sleep downstairs with me, up every hour. Whisked off miles away to some unknown vet (nice but didn’t know me). Took ages to sort me, and apparently all their holiday pocket money. I was ill for two days, and in the end they had to come home a day early, leaving Grandma Cheese and Auntie Carrot to stop on their own. I do have a record for spectacular upset tums, but that’s only because they used to have terriers, and everyone knows terriers can eat anything and it doesn’t affect them. Unfair really to judge a fellow on his weakness.....

But Mum says that I am likely to be the last Lab that will ever grace these walls. But Imknow she would relent if someone like me came along again.....she’s quite kind really😁

well that sounds like real fun. Did you get in trouble?

Glad you have a few neighbouring pooches, we seem to have acquired a pooch a couple of doors down, it doesn't half yap! I hope your neighbouring ones are better behaved? Actually fussy one is a tad concerned as theres every likelihood of a puppy arriving here when the 12 weeks self isolation is up and so she's off to see how to avoid that scenario 😱.

Well.......not prone to barking, but Toby is the Houdini of the dog world, I am far too big to follow him through some of the gaps he gets through. He has a lovely (if hairy) little brother called Eddie, but he likes to be at home. Toby’s human came round and he was hauled away in some disgrace, but Mum just found it funny, pond is sorted again now.

Mum and Dad would love a puppy. There’s the occasional mention of the patter of tiny paws, but then Noisy remembers she has somewhere called Rome, Canada and Australia on her bucket list, so it goes quiet again.

Dad is baking for me today, peanut butter dog biscuits. He’s in the doghouse with me though, he’s just used up the only bit of flour in the house........oopsπŸ˜‚

Well if you look hard enough you can just make me out snuggled in my nesty bit. Note I've emptied the food bowl first come first served. Anyway payment for having my roof removed and a photo taken......
