As part of my job I have annual fire safety training. Today was the day, and I heard about some interesting, and potentially disturbing, research that has been undertaken jointly between a Fire Service and University in the UK. Forgive me, I can't remember the exact figures involved but, basically 80% of children sleep through the sound of a smoke alarm. 100% of boys in the study slept through through six episodes of the alarms sounding. A note of caution to parents and grandparents, don't assume your child will hear your alarm if it sounds. Maybe someone has heard of this research already and can fill in the gaps?
