Should restaurants ban the use of mobiles

We were in a retaurant on Tuesday, we were ther for about an hour and a half, a young couple sat opposite us were on their bloody phone all the time, I told them to talk to one another, the reataurant manager called for an Ambulance for me

Probably the most awful incident I saw once was when I was eating one night alone on a business trip and a guy on the next table conducted a conversation on his mobile phone whilst eating his main course. Imagine listening to that on the other end. UGH!!

I have been in a loo cubicle in a restaurant when the person in the next cubicle was having a conversation on their mobile phone, and doing more than just peeing at the same time!  Uuuurggh!  It even made me squirm.

I'm not a lover of mobile phones, mine is only turned on when I'm out and about on my own, at any other time the family knows I can be reached using the house phone or the OH's phone, anyone else I'm not interested in they can leave a message and I'll get back to them at my convenience.  While out shopping the other day I was looking in the window of a cafe, a young family was sat at a table Mum/Dad and 2 small children, one in a high chair, parents on the phones, not on calls scrolling, child in high chair crying other one just sat. My own grown up children are the same both DIL's are always on their phones, its like an extention to their hand.  What really irks me is when I'm on holiday laying by the pool and some ****** is sat full blast telling there friend back home what there doing Aaaargh!!!

I agree entirely that its annoying when people seated close to you are conducting loud telephone conversations and spoiling your direct space, but I fail to see why we get so upset by others constantly  txting each other. They may well be a bit mind dead and unable to conduct a proper conversation etc, but how is it harming you? Txting is silent, & if they want to do that at the next table, surely that is better than some others with overly loud conversation or inane laughter?

Whats even worse is a dog on a phone in a restaurant, all that howling and barking

Bothmy wife and I switch our mobiles off when in a restaurant, cinema cafe or in fact anywhere it may annoy anybody. Only because my wife forgot to switch hers off and got a call half way through a funeral, what made it worse was she had  Satisfaction by The Rolling Stones for a ring tone.

Can I suggest ring tones appropriate to the surroundings. A bit of gregorian chant for church, "we are the champions" for football matches, Rachmaninov Piano Concerto 2 for train journeys, "food glorious food"  for restaurants etc.

I am with you there TF  text and checking emails no problem but overly loud phone conversations NO ( why is it people shout when on mobiles do they think the other person will hear easier?)
