Hello, Our Swift caravan is stored in Spain, and after our hoilday this year in Spain we intend to sell the caravan there. Can anyone tell us what legal documents we require to safely sell our van?

It depends on what the caravan is going to be used for. If it's going to be used as a static and not be towed anywhere I assume there will be a minimum of concerns. However it it is to be sold as a touring caravan it will probably need to be registered and to do that you will need the Certificate of Conformity from the manufacturer. How easy that will be to get might depend on the age of the caravan and whether the manufacturer is still in business.

I think it also depends on since whether it is to remain in the EU after the sale. If that is the case a written contract of sale giving details of the seller, the purchaser, when the caravan was brought into the country, when the sale took place, its chassis number and, of course, the agreed price may be required in order to be able to calculate possible Spanish VAT due on permanent imports into the EU. This would apply regardless of whether it is going to be used as a static or as a tourer. Without a contract of sale the purchaser may have problems later in any onward sale.
