PYG Phones

Prompted by some posts on another thread, just wondering what folks pay average per month if they use a PYG phone. My sister used a PYG sim, in a relic of a Nokia, up to Xmas. She seldom if ever phoned me, it was always me who had to phone her.

I gave her my old iPhone 5s, all checked out and reset, and convinced her to take out a sim only contract. It’s for 12 months, gives her free calls to same network, 1500 minutes to other networks and land lines, unlimited texts and a whopping 6G of data, which she can tether her iPad to if there’s no WiFi. Unused allowances roll over to next month. This is all for £9 per month. I thought it a good deal. Is it?๐Ÿค”

We are both on fixed monthly contracts, as we get our phones via Virgin as well, and we are happy with things. Great coverage, and we get extra deals as we do BB with them as well. I’m just happier now my Sis has a smart phone, as she’s takes Mum out and about a lot, so Sat Nav is useful.

Thanks for comments, we all have different requirements, and I appreciate others do what suits them best.laughing

Thatโ€™s a great package, One.๐Ÿ‘๐Ÿป

This package wasn’t advertised and was only offered when I said I was going to leave.  Everything rolls over and no additional cost over there

We both use a SIM only contract with EE at £18 inc VAT/ month. That’s quite a lot more than others are quoting here. But we don’t have a home phone connected, so all calls come out of our EE unlimited calls allowance. Ditto texts. We each have a 12Gb data allowance which covers pretty well all needs when away from home, including tethering an iPad or computer, streaming, navigation.

The package means that we don’t have to restrict or ration usage. There’s a small saving made because we don’t have to pay for landline calls, and a big convenience boost through using what is effectively a personal phone number for life. It’s not an ideal package for the thrifty, but a lot less than many people who are buying their phone through a contract, pay. We tend to replace our phones every three years, selling the old one on EBay or similar. Fortunately I’m not tempted by Apple’s top end models at over £1000 and I’m prepared to wait until new features like face recognition security has joined the ranks of mainstream models.

As has been posted previously, it pays to check contract prices/ offers regularly, threatening to switch companies if they can’t be applied to existing customers - most can be with a little persuasion.
