Practice run

Just got back from the allotment - on my own. OH wasn't quite ready to take me as he usually does (that's another storyHappy). Anyway, got in the car (my last car (not his) was very little and a 1.4 engine with 4 gears). His car is a monster, 2ltr with 6 gears. So there I was, kangarooing down the road in 2nd (luckily parked cars on either side of a narrowish road, so couldn't really go fast), and parked opposite the allotment site entrance (no way was I going to manouvre in there), so parked outside the chinese across the road. Watered the tomatoes and peppers, hopped back in the car and decided to go on the "main road" - very busy (gulp!). No problem. Even got into 3rd, going through the town, you can't honestly go that fast, even a pigeon was crossing the road at the pelican crossing, without pushing the button. How's that for cheek. Anyway, got home without a scratch. That's my practice run for when I have to drive OH home from his op on Thursday. Only then, I'll be driving in a city in rush hour (bloody hell!)

It's not compulsory to use all 6 gears, TB, and 2.0 makes it easier to get out of trouble.Cool

I'm sure you'll be fine tombar.  Always a good idea to do a trial run. Hope all goes well with the op on Thursday.  Best caring skills polished up??

Many thanks guys.  To be truthful, I've always been more used to a large car than a small one.  I soon got used to the gears, because its got 6, I've really got to shove the gear stick over to the left to get it into 1st, and when I change, I've got to make sure it stays over to the left as it will jump from 1st to 4th, hence, kangarooingHappy, but I actually did master it

Nobody says that you have to drive in rush hour. Grab a coffee or something and wait for an hour or get a taxi. Mrs WN sends her best wishes as she hates driving "our " car and in fact hasn't for 3 months.

Good luck to both of you.

I've had my car for almost 4 years, SWMBO drove it for the very first time a few weeks ago from the CC main gate to the caravan ..... it was a big site Cool

I have had my car 11 months and wife still not drove it, not as long as yours MM, she only drove my previous car twice in four years, says she is quite happy driving her own little Corsa.

I'm impressed that you can remember what I drive. Thing is, my wife used to quite happily drive my Omega & previous Senators, which, while not quite as big as an R Class, were all big cars.

Rush  hour  is  the  easy  time,  you  cant  go  too  fast,  and  if  you  do  take  a  wrong  turn  you  are  going  slow  enough  to  see  signs  to  get  back  on  route !!

Just  make  sure  OH  is  still  semi - comatose  so  no  grumbles    from  the  passenger  side  !!

Hope  you  survive  both  the  surgery  AND  the  drive  home !!
