P&O Ferries - a word of praise

On Saturday 17 March we travelled (solo) on the Pride of Hull to Rotterdam and on to Germany to visit our son.     We boarded in during a huge blizzard and parked on the car deck within the ship.    The weather and crossing was terrible, really rough - in fact we were rocking and rolling in the Humber before we even reached the North Sea!     On arrival in Rotterdam (2 hours late due to the weather), unfortunately, our car would not open, the battery had flattened and thus the central locking wouldn't work.     The very helpful ferry staff offered to jump start the car as there were others in the same predicament.     However, we could not get into our car using the emergency key as unbeknown to us, the lock was broken and being an automatic couldn't not be towed or pushed.    I had wisely taken out breakdown cover with Eversure and was able to ring them to arrange recovery.

The recovery agent was great, updating us on progress as often as he could, but you can imaging how difficult it was for the driver to gain entry to the docks, the ship and then get his tow truck onto a car deck (low ceiling).   The P&O staff were really helpful, despite giving me a heart attack by suggesting they fork-lifted the car off the ferry surprised .    They found us somewhere warm to sit and gave us hot drinks as the outside temperature was around minus 6.

After a wait of around 2 hours when we were getting panicky that we'd be returning to Hull on the evening ferry, the recovery driver arrived.   He was able to access the car and jump us off and we were able to get on our way, albeit 4 hours later than planned.    We left via the freight deck and out through the containter terminal.   The battery was not at fault and did not need replacing.       On the return journey home, we left the car unlocked and a window open - just in case as the general consensus was the alarm had triggered in the bad weather and flattened the battery.

Praise for both P&O and Eversure/Allianz - I have sent emails to both companies thanking them for their help.

I think you're a spoil sport! Would have loved to see your car being fork lifted off,  photos posted and then a copy of the response from your insurance company!
