Parking at Berry Head, Brixham

Has anyone else been stung with a large fine for parking at Berry Head?  The car park uses number plate recognition and photographs you on the approach road before you enter the car park and when you leave. So your time is between the photos, not from the time you pay your money.  And do be careful to enter your registration number accurately too.

One of our local supermarkets uses the number plate recognition cameras at the entrance to their car park.  You're 'clocked'  as you enter with your time limit displayed; park your car and go shopping.

I presume you were fined because you overstayed your time limit but, if the car park has 'number plate recognition, where do you need to 'enter your registration number'?

At Berry Head, you have to enter your registration at a Pay Station and pay the appropriate fee.  Have heard from someone else who used this car park that they were fined because their reg on the ticket didn't match exactly with the ANPR camera photo (need to wear reading glasses when buying the ticket).  Also someone else who was fined because the machine didn't actually print out the ticket (out of ink!).  Both ground for appeal but very frustrating.

They also use that system at the main car park at the northern end of Fistral Beach, Newquay. Although in fairness, they allow you to pay any excess when you return if you've overstayed. But I'm not sure how long the system allows you between entering the car park and buying your ticket in the first place.
