Hi all

hope someone can help me, I’m looking for a new tow car that is under 10k, I want a suv, I have got a swift 6TD exclusive 2020 model, I think the weight is around 1400kg fully ladened. I am wanting something that isn’t bad on juice either. Currently have an antara but want to change it for something newer with less miles on, however every car i look at doesn’t seem to be heavy enough? Thanks

Many thanks to all you head butters👍🏻👏🏻👏🏻😎. During these uncertain times when it seems the old fashioned ways are long gone it’s just great to be taken back to the days of yore🤣🤣

I can't understand the reservations raised about the towing ability of an X3. I have an X4 which is based on the the X3 and probably only marginally heavier and I've been towing an 1800kg caravan with it for over 4 years now. Plenty of power there from its 3 litre diesel.

Hi Lutz

Its the norm on here, if it isn't the persons outfit it isn't any good. People go on the site matching tool and swear by it when its poor at best. BMW haters will always be around, i'm just glad i am in a position to buy and enjoy them

Bit of a generalisation isn’t it.  People buy cars for many reasons but I doubt many are emotional.  For me the most important are will it do the job I’m asking it to do, reliably and value for money.  When we aren’t away in the van my tug sits outside the house for weeks at a time so no point in my spending £50k plus

OP

sorry hadn't seen this for some reason. We have a 6DT and tow with a Kia Sorrento, no problems at all, and lots of space with the seats down. Towing we get about 28/29 mpg.

Everyone has different wants and needs. I personally don't want a car sitting doing nothing whatever the cost as it is a waste to me.

I have the Ranger for work and we use it to tour the UK with the caravan

My wife uses the BMW to go to work and do all Mum duties and we tour Europe with it as it is cheaper to run than the Ranger

I enjoy driving and love my cars so i am emotionally buying as well as reliability and value. I just value our possessions quite highly, we both work hard and want a nice House , cars and caravan

I suggest the OP goes to Autotrader website used car search, put in their Buying parameters and see what comes up. For me personally i prefer a high riding 4wd estate, hence my Alltrack. Plenty of options under £10k but please, please dont get hung up on the blasted 85% towing ratio figure. Or, try ‘Towcar website too, probably the most data reliable matching website.

My caravan isn't heavier than my car. ( tail wagging the dog ) another overused phrase on this forum. Who is the dog you or your pal MM

Did I say your caravan is heavier than you car. Please have another look at what I said
