Mouse control

We keep finding evidence of mice around the house. A few months ago you may remember that I found one in a box containing a new pair of boots, having shredded the laces. A couple of weeks ago, Mrs H found one fast asleep in a bucket containing cleaning cloths.

Both were deposited in fields some distance away.

Yesterday, Mrs H noticed a pool of water appear from under the dishwasher. When I got home, I pulled it out and found the drain pipe had been chewed though (how on earth do they find that of interest?)

Anyway, today I ordered a humane mouse trap from Amazon.......it arrives tomorrow.

Whilst browzing, I saw some ultrasonic devices that emit a sound that is reckoned to repel small rodents and insects. Reviews are slightly mixed.

My question is......do any of you wise folk have experience of these devices and are they any good?

Don't waste your money Ian! Animals, if they were ever affected by these things which I doubt, would very quickly adapt to the new situation and ignore them! Buy a snap trap at the fraction of the price!

Just before someone launches into an unprovoked attack- I just wish to clarify that it was grey squirrels I was talking about and not our indigenous and rather gorgeous little red squirrels. !!

No more mice last night.......we have set a target of 7 nights before we consider ourselves mouse-free.

One night gone.....

Don't stop, a couple of winters ago I caught 18 over a period of a couple of months in my shed. That was with a little nipper so they couldn't return for a second bite.

It is illegal to release Grey Squirrels back into the wild. How you dispose of the humanely I dont know. What I do know is that ****** are very selective in what they like and dont like and what is cuddly but no matter what devastation they cause.

Ian, Mum had some mice invade her home. We found that as well as catching them (humanely and release elsewhere) we put almost everything edible into tins or plastic airtight containers. At the moment, supermarkets and places like discount warehouses are disposing very cheaply of Panattone Tins, very colourful, big range of sizes, and you can get almost all packages into them! We found that preventing was better than curing. Since we did this, with things like flour, sugar, packet soups etc..... haven't seen a single mouse in over three years! Mums house is quite old, as is ours, so we are lucky enough to have proper pantries and good cupboards, but these tins look nice if you have to leave them out. Hope this helps.
