Keeping up appearances (litter)

I regularly do a litter pick up our little cul de sac. It’s only a thoroughfare for pedestrians, but some do drop stuff without thinking. Having lived in the same place for the last forty years, and now being the ones who have been resident the longest, can definitely say that down the years, new owners are not as bothered about regularly keeping street clean. Town’s MP used to live three doors up, and our street was regularly sweep by a road sweeper, which helped keep the weeds at bay. That ended when he passed away, and it’s DIY now. We have the original cobbles outside onto our drive, and we try and keep them looking nice. OH jet washed them and our bit of pavement last week.

Lots of the issues of course stem from LA’s being squeezed for service cash, but litter is one that anyone can help with. Either not dropping it, or just doing a little bit to pick up. 😁

We have a good population of hedgehogs where we live, who we also encourage to visit our garden and have feeding stations and houses. Whilst walking our dog, I find my eye is drawn to discarded elastic bands dropped by the postman. Birds can pick them up, but hedgehogs can get them stuck around them, so I regularly find myself picking them up and disposing them. Luckily we have a lovely postie who feeds my “advice” back to the sorting office 🤭

It is interesting that some neighbours won't go beyond their boundary to keep things neat and tidy? We have the same where we live. I get told off by Margaret for trimming back overgrown plants and trees that are away from my own boundary! It doesn't help that we currently have two houses on the estate that have undergone some extensive building work and it seems to be taking a long time to get their front gardens back to normal, is perhaps the best way of putting it
