Is Yorkshire in England

Listening to the BBC Scotland news this lunchtime, there was an item on Bannockburn ( the one the Scots won) The statement was that children from all over  Scotland, the highlands and islands, Yorkshire and England have come to the famous battlefield. Have I missed something, did Yorkshire declare independence from England or does BBC Scotland just have an inferior knowledge of geography or political science?
