Is This Selfish Queue Jumping?

Yesterday an acquaintance forwarded to me a link to the NHS booking  system for the Covid jab telling me that she had booked her two appointments. Her daughter, who appears to have both condoned and encouraged her mother, phoned me last night to ask if I had now booked my place. I queried with her when her mother had received her invitation letter as I hadn't had mine yet to which she replied that she hadn't had one, it was a neighbour of hers who had forwarded the link to her so she booked her place telling me that there were lots of appointments available.

Commenting to her that I didn't think it was right she said that as her mother was in the relevant age group, (she is 73) it was permissible to book whenever she wanted to. This is the first and only time I have heard this claim. I clicked on the link out of curiosity and it quite clearly states "Do not use this link until you have had an invitation" (or similar words).

Is it me being prepared to wait my turn (I'm 74) or is she right in what she has done?

I think the major problem is the lack of communication in some circumstances. It is nearly two weeks ago we were told we would get a letter, or perhaps a phone call, to invite us all to the vaccination centre. My neighbours of similar age, but different surgery,  have both had their vaccination, we have heard nothing. So people will get increasingly anxious the more they hear about that sort of situation. As to the ethics of what has happened in the OP there are a lot of frightened people out there which always leads to people trying to take short cuts. Can't condone it but can perhaps understand it!

David on another forum I'm on, someone mentioned her GP practice in MK had done ALL their over 70s, still had vaccine but not allowed to start the over 65s yet.

We have heard that our GP surgery are starting on the over 70s next week. This is good news as they were slow to get vaccine.

My sister and BIL have still not heard anything they are 76 & 74 he is extremely vulnerable.

I understand that the "system" is open to some extra vaccine being available? if it is the phizer jab as there is a problem with "use by" as it seems there is difficulty with storage once opened ,so can lead to some being spare or having to be destroyed ,which may allow add jabs above the appointment figures

When I saw the level of activity, I thought this would be about the EU-AstraZeneca spat.

One wonders how this all might impact on our second jabs notwithstanding Boris's reassurances.

There are 40000 over 80s still waiting in the SW! I've emailed our MP about the booking loophole. I can imagine chaos if something isn't sorted quickly and some will die due to other's greed.

Vaccines are administered, in our area anyway, via  timed arrivals ,process not alphabetically,  we were ticked off the list when we handed over our filled in by us consent form ,i did notice that the paper the "admin lady"had some ticks missing? so could be where "extra"vacines also come from with "non arrivals?"to their appointments, as doctors surgeries constantly have problems with

JVB, if all those that could decided to use the NHS booking loophole the system will descend into chaos and those with the greatest need could lose their lives.

At present anyone who wants to can book an appointment on line without any form of invite (even though it is stated they must have a letter or call) jump the queue ahead of all those who are patiently waiting. Four of my neighbours have done this, two are under 70, they filled up vacant appointments of their own choosing, nothing to do with supplies , they lined up in a supermarket car park and "blagged" their way through. undecided

I hope fines are introduced swiftly or the web site is tightened up.

Have you read the EU/ AZ contract?  I went through the full 42 pages at pace this PM.  There is a mass of "sensitive" script that has been redacted which could be important in discussions but I think AZ are on slightly shaky ground and it will need our Government to step in to prevent vaccine produced in the UK being shipped over the channel.

Which proves the attitude that seems to be getting more prevalent in society , of which I was advised by one of my old bosses he said "my boy if you want to get on these days Bulls***t and Bluff ,goes a long way as people will back down in case you are right"surprised

  1. Ps these days it has mostly been overtaken by  CVs and over worked HR departmentswink

I'm not sure that is entirely accurate Brue.

As I understand the it the system is in three parts.

GP surgeries are contacting their patients and booking them into surgeries or local GP run hubs.

The national NHS systems is contacting everyone by letter.  If you get a letter you can then phone in or go on line to get an appointment at a mass vac centre, some big others less so.  These include places being run by the likes of Pharmacy4U at Morrisons.  To book with all of these you MUST have the details on your letter.

The third system which I believe is the one being abused is the NHS staff process.  Staff have been given a site that does not need much info as they can all have the jab regardless of age, etc.  Unfortunately this access has been shared with outsiders.

I hope that makes sense.  If you tell me roughly where you are I may be able to tell you where things are.

Hope you have more success than me brue! I emailed our MP over a week ago to ask why, in a major population centre in Wiltshire, vaccines were only being offered 2 days a week. Still waiting (patiently) for any sort of reply! frown
