I'm not having a good day!

Oh TF it never rains that it pours .  I sincerely hope you have a better start to the day tomorrow.  I hope you have enjoyed the washing up, I actually think it can be a sociable activity - but maybe I'm odd.   I'm not impressed with our dishwasher but OH uses it.

Your trouble in locating the appropriate socket actually proves my OH's point, and from posts on another thread other men too, in following any workman around and understanding what they are fitting and how they are doing it.  We had our kitchen fitted, we could finally afford not to DIY, and whatever the fitter put in hubby was asking how to remove it .  On the positive side he would have known exactly where to locate the socket.

Do you update us in due course.

It sounds a bit like my day earlier this week.  Sitting there before lunch watching TV and it went off - thinking the wind had caused the electrics to fail - I decided it was time to evacuate to the caravan to cook my lunch.  However discovered the TV in the kitchen was still working and thought it was just the main TV dying on me.  Started preparing the lunch to put in the electric Wok and when I switched it on the main trip went!  Kept fiddling around before going to the caravan and fitted electric wok into Kitchen tv socket - it blew - reset and tried the electric frying pan in another socket.  Fetched the caravan tv in to watch over lunch - Eventually it turned out to be the electric wok tripping everything else!  Now searching for the guarantee to get a refund!  And I had so nearly thrown out the main TV too! 

The day continued as it started!  The Grandchildren decided to visit Grandad during their lunch time break, and like all 8 year olds can be a bit over enthusiastic about things, So when they arrived they pressed the door bell which refused to work, so they opened the letter box wide to look through. this was done with such pamash as to break the outer flap away from the rest of the box!  New letter box required!

In the afternoon having learned from my supplier that my Miele dishwasher - now 15 year old, was probably beyond economic repair so went out to look at new ones.  Then discovered a new problem!  It centres around the fact that about 5 years ago we had our kitchen remodeled and the dishwasher was hidden behind a wooden door matching all of the other vertical surfaces. This was possible because the controls were located on the top inside edge of the door hidden from view when the door was closed.  Yes you've guessed it, - Miele have moved the controls to the front of the door on current models, so the wood cover cannot be fitted!  The DCOS who is all powerful in such matters, is not amused!  The trouble is that all acceptable alternative makes have done the same thing!

About the only thing that went right yesterday was the new series of "Birds of a feather" which continues to be hilarious!

Just take it easy T F,  It will all come right in the end , and for now maybe a couple of pairs of marigolds will help,

 Don't  panick about the letter box.  If it stops the postman filling it with bills and junk mail, surely that's a good thing  but on a serious note.  Hope today fairs a lot better for you 

I don't know if a Bosch is an acceptable make for you Tigerfish but we have recently bought a new Bosch dishwasher, seems good so far (2 weeks).   That has the controls on the top of the door so our decor panel fitted back fine.  Hope today is a better, at least cheaper, one for you! 

My dishwasher is a Bosch and my kind and local kitchen fitter covered the front of the dishwasher with a 'matching finish'.  

TF I think you need to look at intregrated dishwahers - that's the ones that fit behind a 'cupboards door.  Their controls are on the top of the door and hidden from view.

Sorry to hear the day progessed in the same vein - however I would say be grateful your grandchildren wanted to visit you   it may not last .  Our grandchild and one on the way live in NZ so I would give anything to see her more often and to have her visit us would be soooo magical.  The letter box can soon be fixed.  Sometimes you have to go the a spell in life where everything goes wrong, but once it's over and done with it should be fine for a while

Today is already a better day!  have purchased & fitted a new letter box already & will certainly go & look at alternative dish washers.  Although I will be very loath to abandon the confidence factor the Meile gives.

Is it an integrated D/W TF, or an ordinary one either behind a hinged door or with a door somehow attached to it?

It sounds like the old one was actually a freestanding model originally.

As B2 said, if you look at integrated ones you will find one where you can (indeed must) attach the "door" to the front of the D/W.  When you do this, you may need to modify the plinth board, or fit a new piece if there is not one there already.

There are actually 2 types, semi-integrated where the control panel remains visible, so the "door" is shorter, and fully integrated where the controls are on the top edge of the door and the unit door is full height.

I'm sure Miele will have both types of integrated machine.

Both freestanding and integrated fit into a 600mm wide gap.

Like Jill, we have a Bosch with the controls on the top edge, though ours is not an integrated model.  It has been a good machine.

Integrated is generally significantly more expensive than freestanding for some reason.
