"Sayings"

I find that sayings are quite facinating and very profound but in some cases very unfounded. For example the saying "blood is thicker than water" rings very true in many ,many cases but the saying "hard work never killed anybody" is so off the mark that i cant think how it ever came about. What sayings do you think are very true or otherwise ? or do you have a saying that you use very often ? or one that your parents used when you were young daft or otherwise.
