Hybrid Cars

OH is leaning towards a hybrid car, he's impressed by the mileage and general improvements in their development. It won't be for towing but if these cars start to become the norm before all electric takes over we were interested to hear from others who have one. Or should we go all electric? Will there be charging points on sites for those that need it, how far is the club becoming involved in the move away from diesel/petrol cars?

I have spoken to two owners of Hybrid cars on site and both were being charged via the external socket on the c/van,  both were satisfied with their cars(they would say that) but both admitted they were not sure about the cost of batt replacements,? and said they got between 50-70 mpg when towing

That's interesting, OH was looking at 130 mpg without towing.

We were looking at a neighbour who has a special charger socket with his car plugged in and wondered how this would be done on sites.

Hi Brue, We have a friend who tows with a hybrid Lexus 3ltr petrol and no plug said he would not go back to a petrol car only never had a diesel, he gets very good mpg.

Hope weather ok in Somerset used to live there for 25 years now in the Lot France and yes we have rain today and only 20c.

Thanks Redkite. After some miserable wet weather the sun is shining, time for some fruit picking! smile

Just an update as OH is pursuing his hybrid mission, he's gone through various makes, has reached Hyundai and  is now looking at what BMW can do which is quite an  impressive amount of mpg. He was chatting to someone involved with design and development who feels the latest technology will be with us for about five years before the next move. Hope the caravan industry might show some interest somewhere along the line, we never seem to hear thoughts from the clubs either. Although we don't need a tow car others will. I see there is a hybrid tow car thread that has just been revived.
