Well done Hull, it's already on my list of to visit, you're up there with some good cities, sadly I've not visited any of them.  So it looks like I'll be adding to my travel list.

Anyone visited all of them?

We've been to Hull many times to get the ferry but never spent any real time there, its usually raining when we are coming and goingFrown We've also been to Amsterdam, can't say I will rush back to there though, not on my list of must return.

Mr Bollinger gets around the world a bit on business and often mentions Hull. There are typically two reactions: it's either great or crap. It turns out that most that think its crap haven't been. Those that have, or know people that have, and there are plenty due to the city's excellent university, think its a great place. give it a try and be pleasantly surprised.

Sad to say but Hull is only about an hour away down the M62 from us and we've never been (except for the ferry) - perhaps it really is time for a visit but I too find the list of Top 10 cities odd.

For years Kingston upon Hull has only been known as a place to enter the country or a departure point, its the A63 as soon as possible when leaving the port to 'a' destination. Let's hope visitors will dally a while as it has many attractions on offer.

Which if we're honest, doesn't really give the best impression of the City.    I have lived in Hull for 40 years moving here from the West Riding when I was 7.   Yes, it has it's faults some of them caused by themselves but the majority caused by lack of investment by those in power who don't see it's potential.   Not included in the Northern Powerhouse as that only includes west of Leeds!

Hull has plenty to offer, including as already mentioned the excellent museums (all which are free except for The Deep), the top rated University, a Medical School, parks, gardens, culture, theatres and many other attractions too numerous to mention.

Give it a try - you might like it.   I myself have never been impressed by Leeds - each to their own.

To those who say that Hull is great, I say that I am very pleased to hear that and one day I might well make a visit. But the OP was about it being, - not only the very top City in the UK, but also the 10th in the World???

To Quote a well knowm phrase or saying, -  "You can not be Serious!"

Again I ask on what criteria was it judged?

It wasn't a competition TF it's the opinion of the author who wrote ,

"After being named the least romantic city in the UK in 2015, and once crowned one of the “crap towns” of the UK, things are finally looking up for Hull. It’s the UK City of Culture in 2017, so this year is Hull‘s practice run. It’ll be brimming with new hotels and restaurants, and even more of that distinctive home-grown creativity the city has always had. There are atmospheric old-timey pubs, eight excellent museums and a picturesque Old Town with cobbled streets. This year’s fun is set to culminate in the September Freedom Festival, when the entire city is turned into a stage for performers and artists."

as justification for his opinion.
Hope that helps and you can relax

Although just over the bridge, Hull is our nearest city! Only 15 mins away from Princes Key today and go regularly but prior to 1981 it was like going foreign on a ferry which got stuck on the sandbanks! Prior to retirement I was making the journey over the bridge three or four times a week working in what was then the county of Humberside. It was and is a lovely, interesting city.

Bestboy,  Ah now I can relate to that!  After all last year Bristol was declared the UK Green City for 2015.  Cryps!

Now totally relaxed!  Not the slightest bit waspish!
