High price of a family day out

I sympathise fully, as a wrinkly I find that taking G/kids anywhere is a pension shrinking experience.  I don't begrudge them the experience for one moment and often think  that's how much (in relative terms) it used to hurt my grandfather/father in days gone by.  If you can, try to be brave whilst the wallet takes the hit.

Yes try Lego land, ooh och. WC is a money making enterprise. There are far better days out, go to Ferry Meadows Campsite and visit the park, the town and the near by steam trains :) Plus you camp on top of the place. Longleat you get discount with the club, and since you have come this far you get discount at Chatsworth House. Are you on holiday in this area now? As your label says caravaner from Devon? Need things to do or local advice for days out?

I  think  D S B   is holidaying  on  the  Continent  at  the  moment,  otherwise  I'm  sure  he  would  offer  you  a  guided  tour  of  his  Cheese  Storage  Cellar  for  a  reasonable  donation  !!

Went there a couple of years ago and it prompted a scathing review on Trip Advisor.

What a rip off, they want money for everything (there are sme free bits....but not the bits the kids actually want to do!).

Thanks Si, no we are not in the area at present, I was just looking for a later occasion. I am beginning to think that the discounts they offer - tesco points vouchers, offers on breakfast cereals etc are the real price and the price advertised is a hopeful, which, if so, is unfair. I know places like Alton Towers are expensive but there is so much more there for the money. Warwick is ok but there is not so much there for the price they are charging. Also I really don't get how they can charge an adult price for a child of 12.

I remember my mum and dad taking me and my 2 brothers for summer evenings out when we were kids (back in the early 1960s) to Beeston Castle in Cheshire.  It was great to explore and climb to the top to the ruin, and it was free.  Today, you have to pay because it belongs to one of the Government run depts. 

Join English Heritage and take them to loads of castles!! National Trust too.  Historic House Association is great, just have to pay for the children if they don't go in free.

Here's my tip for an alternative family day in Warwick

http://www.stnicholaspark.co.uk it's about £6 for all day parking. You can even get a good view of the castle if you stroll over the road and see it from the bridge or hire a boat for a closer look.
