Gets my goat

What really, really annoys me at Christmas is the hype.  It all starts off in July when I've seen the odd restaurant/hotel advertising bookings for Christmas, and from then it (pardon the pun) snowballs, getting bigger and bigger.  Then it stops - dead - two days before Christmas on TV by all the adverts for the January Sales, which, I may add, opens on Boxing Day.  Really, I absolutely love Christmas, but all this advertising really annoys the heck out of me.  I even "mute" the telly when the adverts come on and also hope that the BBC has something good on so I don't have to see the adverts.

Well, that's my rant over for the day

Merry Christmas everyone Innocent

Couldn't agree more, I used to love Christmas when the kids were little but nowadays I can't be bothered by it all, its just a big retail hype. This year it was my turn for the meal, a day preparing it half a day cooking it 1 hour and its over.  Next year we are going awaySmile

Write your comments here...so you might be up for a CC Rally in Tajikistan then Tammy?I understand that they have banned Tinselmas there. If so may I join you as the whole "Festive Shoppathon" makes me want to  go and hide in a cave until New Year is safely over.

Write your comments here...No problem, I have been called worse things than a lady in my life time And no doubt, a small schooner of sherry had something to do with my faux pas.

Happy new year everyone

In spite of it being really busy, I always enjoy Christmas and the lead up to it, but not the advertising and commercialisation bit.

Write your comments here...totally agree but I think other countries have maintained the real connection and spirit of Christmas. Many parts of Europe celebrate Twelfth Night as the day of giving presents, not Christmas Day. Twelfth Night coincides with the arrival of the Three Kings and their giving of gifts to the Christ Child. In this country the whole thing seems to be far too commercialised and the suggestion is that the change from Twelfth Night as above came about for commercial reasons!
