Fracking - I wish someone would explain....

The media seems to be full of noise, those who oppose fracking make a lot of media noise, those who support it, rather less perhaps. We've had a local debate in the media in N. Shropshire, but there is simply too much noise to form an opinion. The noisiest ones are those against it, so therefore the local populus who inevitably only hear one side are, unsurprisingly against it as well.

ME, I don't know enough about it. 

Can someone (who knows) explain in a balanced unemotional, non-abusive manner the pros and cons of it all please?
