Flu jabs

My husband had his flu jab booked for next Tuesday at our local Boots store. He received a phone call yesterday saying it was cancelled because they don't have enough vaccine. He was given another appointment in three weeks time. I checked on the Boots website to discover there were still lots of appointments available for under sixty fives during the next couple of weeks. This morning on their website it states that no appointments are available for over sixty fives but that existing appointments will still go ahead. Does anyone know if a different vaccine is used for different age groups?

They are concerned that some will have been given appointments earlier than the 6 month interval, W. They said that since everyone had been sent the same text at the same time there was no check on when folk had received their second main jab. Not clear if the booster will be given if folk turn up for their appointment before that 6 months has elapsed. It seems a real mess! frown

Based on my experience "they"or rather the system has very detailed records of when and where each person received their Covid jabs, what type and which batch even who drew up and administered the dose.  It certainly is not a mess.

We're in a similar situation, Debsc. I’m not confident of the doc delivering the flu jab soon as they’re doing flu and covid booster together and the covid vax didn’t turn up so I’ve no idea if the program is on schedule. Also, I’m not over the moon at the idea of having the two jabs together.

I could get appointments at Boots in Nov but I rang a local independent pharmacy and we can have the over 65 flu jabs on Monday👍🏻. They’re only just across the road from Boots as well🤷🏻‍♂️.

Yesterday we had both the booster, at the St Clare's Clinic in Penzance, and our flu jab in the Day Lewis pharmacy next door, one in each arm.

We had booked our booster using the NHS number supplied on our text from NHSvaccine on 29th Sept, (OH's text came on 21st). I then phoned the pharmacy and they had appointments for the same day as the booster so arranged to get them one after the other. Only reactions so far are sore upper arms at the sites of the injections.

Agree there, LLM. We had our initial vaccinations about a week apart and the booster invitations with a similar gap. We've had texts, emails and even a phone call from our GP surgery reminding us to book a flu jab and they have also been operating  walk-in sessions too. Certainly can't complain about the quality of contact or booking ability from either our GPs or the NHSvaccination service.

Yes, they may well have those records, but the surgery staff were concerned that folk may turn up for their appointments even if it's less than 6 months since their second main jab, and what their reaction would be if turned away at the time. (These were texts sent out from the local PCN, not NHS directly) "It's a mess" was their description, not mine.

The only confusion I have seen is the patients mistaking invitations for flu jabs for covid boosters and possibly vice versa.

There was no confusion involved, LLM, these were texts sent out specifically stating "you are now due your COVID booster". It may not be "a mess" generally, but here the surgery staff are clearly concerned.

I received a letter today with an appointment for next week to get both flu and Covid booster at the same time.
Our GPs are not doing them at the surgery this year, instead we older people are being sent to our local town hall, which was where I went for both my Covid ones, and where OH and I went for the flu ones last year.

No appointment for OH as yet as her 6 months is not up till the 23rd.

We both had flu jabs booked for last Saturday - postponed a couple of days before - no vaccine!  Re booked for a couple of weeks time.  Much later than normal, and it takes a couple of weeks to develop immunity.

Covid booster not due until next month - not heard yet.  I believe they are using pfizer for booster, which I will need to chase up because of a wasp venom allergy.  I was given AZ automatically originally but told that they would not have given me pfizer.
