I loved the Winnie the Pooh stories as a child and living in East Grinstead, A. A. Milne's home in the village of Hartfield is just up the road. The illustrations in the books were part of the magic and as such I found this article on the telegraph online very interesting.

The caricatures by E H Shepard, documented his time in the trenches. These sketeches have been locked in a trunk for 100 years.

There's a fascinating article on the telegraph with some of the illustrations and the collection has been published in a new book called Shepard's War.
