Electric and hybrid car charging on club sites

I was informed this year by a site Marshall at the Centenary club site that if I wished to charge up my Mitsubishi Outlander PHEV on a club site it would cost £9 per day.

since I only get 26 miles from a full charge I thought this was excessive .

I wrote to the club pointing out that we pay for up to 16A electricity in the pitch fee and as long as we don’t exceed this there should be no further charge. At most my charger uses 10A and only charges for 4 hours.

What does anyone else think about this?

Free? Wow! You do realise that would mean we'd all be subsidising EV users via our site fees.

But you've taken two vehicles, possibly travelling hundreds of miles.  In my opinion, charging an EV should be free and an additional charge for the second combustion engined vehicle.

Yes one has but assuming that's the way it is which one (MH with an EV or ICE) is more environmentally friendly?

I regularly take two cars to a site, I assume that if one of them was an EV it would be better?

In the present system EV users are expected to pay an extra £9 whilst they reduce the electricity flow to their vans in order to charge their vehicles. There's no logic to this and EV users are probably subsidising all the awning heaters, aircon units, microwaves, big fridge freezers, extra heaters, deep fat fryers, portable ovens, e bikes, scooters, you name it,  those additional appliances that CAMC deems essential!

Site electricity bills won't be going up due to EV users.....wink

The demands of an EV battery are, I think, substantially greater than the equipment listed in Brue's post. In the interests of being equitable, metering would seem to be the solution.

brue - Does having an EV exclude you from owning all the other paraphernalia?

If EV owners don't want to spend the £9 then they can always go elsewhere.

Of course it would. One MH plus an EV would be greener that a MH and another petrol or diesel car.

The Club doesn't seem to be looking at the environmental impact of vehicles on their sites.  They should consider allowing one petrol or diesel vehicle per pitch.  Additional vehicles should be subject to a charge unless they're an EV for which there should be a charging for charging.

If you own an EV you don't pay the Congestion Charge in London yet you have to pay the Club £9 a night to charge it!  Doesn't really make sense.
