Connecting i-Phone to TV

I understand that it is possible to connect an i-Phone (or i-Pad) to a television, using an AV cable adapter and a HDMI cable.

The AV cable is expensive (due to the need for it to be Apple) at about £39 for what is, basically, a little adapter.

My question is, how succesful is it? Does the picture come out full size on screen? I'm thinking of using it to show films or catch-up Tv from i-player etc

Is this for home or while you're away?

If it's for home use I think going via appletv gets a better result and they are £59 at the moment at some retailers.

We used a cable first and it did display full screen but the results are better through ATV

Seems a worthwhile investment so that my girlfriend does not have to use my non-crapple tablet's HDMI port! Oh - and battery power as well.

Thanks Husky.

My concern is that it isn't Apple certified and I've had problems with non-certified charging cables etc before.

Also seems odd that they use a mini USB charger to charge the phone when using the adapter, rather than a lightning connector cable that you would have anyway.

I did intend to give our NOW TV box (similar to Apple Tv) a try while on this holiday......but guess who forgot to bring the remote control for it? Embarassed

I readily accept that it must have been my fault that the remote was forgotten, Redface.....on the basis that it me who remembered the box itself Undecided

The query I have is how do you power the iPhone whilst using it  on the tv?  (If you need too ?)

My Kindle Fire Hd has a micro sub connector for power and data, and a micro HDMI  output for the TVs or hdmi monitor.
