Hi all, we have a CL site with hard standing booked from this Friday in Harrogate. Got a feeling we may get there but not get out till a thaw come spring. It may have to be a no show due to ungritted minor roads. Anyone else have anything booked this weekend and wondering if it's worth the risk?

I never like to cancel a booking but I would in this case.

I'm a wimp anyway and only start towing in May.wink

You’ll only be no show if you fail to turn up without contacting the site owner to cancel.

I'm staying put at home in warmth, comfort and safety.

Will call the site owner on Friday morning to find out what the situation is.

Although we are warm and cosy in our van just now we also have frozen pipes so are without water in our on board tank. The icicles are hanging in profusion under the van, it is a cold trudge to facilities, what's not to like. laughing

We have always found CL owners very understanding. A call to find out situation would be wise. It's not just your destination, but your route there and back as well.

Good point Brue, Forgot about the aquaroll freezing up although we have a small on board water tank for winter conditions. Also leaving the site there is a hill and snow is due on Sunday so getting up to the main road may be a no go.  The site itself concerns me more as it is just a field with a few gravel laid hard standing pitches. I am now thinking of going to a club site this weekend instead.

We're booked into a CL site on Anglesey in a couple weeks ....... I'm hoping for a thaw before then. 😯

We're near Harrogate, and I wouldn't want to be in my caravan at the moment!   There's a good five to six inches of snow, and more forecast, and temperatures are (mostly) below freezing, meaning potential problems with water pipes and even gas if you don't have the 'right' sort.

We're fine in front our our woodburner (with a plentiful and free supply of wood) but it can get cold in the rest of the house when the heating goes off.  Good luck, but it wouldn't be my choice of a 'nice weekend away'.

If it does thaw the ground is likely to be very soggy underfoot, as it's been wet for so long, so bring wellies!
