Check your insurance policy - vehicle spare keys

This is a new one on me.

An acquaintance recently had the misfortune to be burgled. Amongst things stolen was the spare key to the vehicle they were out in at the time. It's a 10 month old vehicle.

Theft of the key reported to vehicle insurers to claim for a new one. The insurers stated that the spare key was classed as an accessory and was not covered on the insurance unless specifically requested at inception. The insurers then added that the vehicle was not covered for theft until the vehicle locks were changed at a cost of £400. It only costs a few quid to add the spare key to the policy cover.

Another get out clause by the insurance world & probably one worth checking on with your insurer.
