Cash still King

Went to Lady Margaret Park on Wednesday. The card machine would not work despite trying on three different occasions. The wardens said it had been down for some days .  In fact they had to send a number of visitors away to cash machines as only cash could be accepted for bookings. Fortunately I always carry cash and only use cards for Petrol and larger purchases. With no Banks left in Chirk I don't know how far away people had to go. Despite our "progress" towards the cash less society It still rules above all other fangled gadgets.

I always have at least two personal cheques in my wallet. I don't use cash machines. I only want £5 notes. If I need cash whilst away I call in a bank and use a cheque. Normally not needed as I often have something like £200 in the caravan, £150 in the car and around £150 in my wallet at the start of a trip.

If there is a PO nearby within working hours you can get cash over the counter with most cards. Look out for local shops with a PO counter.

Is it a case of if you don't pay you're not coming on the site or they let you pitch up and sort the payment later that day ?????

I would doubt it. I would expect to pitch up and pay later

When I have been in the supermarket and the power went down, they pulled out those old swipe machines with the multiple carbons, which they must keep for just such an emergency. Presumably the CC does not think this a worthwhile precaution. Although you would have thought if it was going to be down for days, they could have sorted one out.

Not the sort of info to put on a forum which can be accessed by general public as well as  members especially showing a photo which I guess is of yourself.

Who carries a cheque book with them these days?

Posted on 30/01/2017 10:42

We carry one when away, just for "emergencies".

Otherwise, I reckon we use on average 2 cheques per year.

We are usually at LMP for at least  3 nights every year, say £60 per stay, which is not a long stay.  We would not usually carry even that much cash with us, pretty much all our spending goes on credit cards, so even the current account does not have a lot sitting in it to withdraw.

Chirk is pretty small regarding shopping area. I have only once used an ATM and that was because, unusually, I was able to take the cash in fivers laughing That was when staying at Lidalia

However I do know that there is an ATM alongside The Spar supermarket
