myself and the OH enjoy walking around stately homes, very often go up to Rufford park  and Thoresby park. Both had stately homes, Thoresby is still standing and is a Warner hotel. But my thoughts the other day were, the people that owned these houses, lived in great comfort while the ordinary person had to live in squalor.  When I think about it it makes me wonder why the ordinary people put up with it and didn't revolt more.
