I know there are several wine lovers on here, so I thought it might be a good idea to have a place to discuss and share each others favourite tipple.

A wine I have recently taken to is Barefoot Merlot.  A Californian wine, full bodied wine with a blueberry and plumb flavour.  Really worth a try.  We get it from the Co-op at a little less than £7 a bottle.

Just at the moment I don't want to see another glass of prosecco, the cheap lidl champagne went down well, hope you have all enjoyed your festive drinks. wink

The bottle, cork, label and tax costs £2-80 per bottle regardless of quality. The supermarket mass sales comes over or from Australia in a huge plastic bag by tanker at 70/80p per bottle. Add in the mark up and anything under £5 is plonk. For a little extra (£1/2) you can get estate bottled wine. Worth the extra.

It's difficult to imagine how they are producing so much of it without a loss of taste etc. it's matured in tanks I think?

What is it with this paint stripper of a drink? I know the MIL buys a small bottle of it each week for a treat but she only wants it for the bubbles as she adds decent Creme de Cassis to it. It definitely improves the taste but a waste of Cassis IMO.

I have to say that due to extended family from Italy we've been dinking it for years and enjoyed it but you need to buy well. wink

My apologies to Prosecco lovers. Reading my last post I feel I went too far in denigrating this wine, although in my defence I have been served some awful stuff over the festive period and until someone I can trust recommends one I'll steer clear.

I like the occasional bottle of Prosecco - perhaps Ive drunk too much of it and its that tbats made me a bit indifferent to some of the stuff I've had.  I think I shall give it a rest for a while.
