I know there are several wine lovers on here, so I thought it might be a good idea to have a place to discuss and share each others favourite tipple.

A wine I have recently taken to is Barefoot Merlot.  A Californian wine, full bodied wine with a blueberry and plumb flavour.  Really worth a try.  We get it from the Co-op at a little less than £7 a bottle.

I enjoy tue Siclian Merlot we get from M&S, La Fortezza, but wait until they have their 25% offer on.

Must admit that we are more partial to Red than White.

Love to try local wines when abroad. We've had great wine at both ends of the price spectrum but seem to remember those that seemed a bargain like the Côtieres de Nîmes from the local Co-operative in Galician, Petit Camargue. Also tried the wines from the Jura which were unusual,  Minervois when we get it locally, Beerenauslese from Austria or Tokay Pinot Gris from Alsace. One of the joys of travelling.

Apologies for an error I have just spotted - predictive text.  The wine app is called Vivino not Vivien!

Best wishes

Not used that one David - but I use an App called Wotwine.  Scan the barcode on the bottle with your phone and it comes up with their sommeliers' opinion plus an indication of what price they would pay.  Helped me find some real bargains - and avoid some total rubbish!

I've been using naked Wines for the last few years but despite great customer service I've stopped as just getting too expensive. It's surprising what good value supermarkets can be when 25% offers are running.

Try the Costiere de Nîmes from Aldi. A lot of depth for quite a cheap price. Our every day red at the moment.

I am sitting by the woodburner with a glass of Rioja - M&S have it on the shop shelf at £10, but reduced on line to £5 if you buy a dozen, and my daughter orders it for me with her staff discount bringing it down to £3.   It's worth £3.
