Ready for Christmas?

If you celebrate Christmas do you enjoy the usual fare or go in for something a bit different? There used to be a panic about pork pies in our family, my Mum insisted on having one at breakfast, only on Christmas morning, as it's her birthday as well I suppose it was a special day anyway. But we had  neighbours who also enjoyed a piece of pork pie, perhaps it was a Midlands tradition? Any traditions in your family or area?

We also have the pork pie tradition on Christmas morning and I'm from Yorkshire.

Don't know why but I've never looked it up but apparently turkey is a fairly recent thing, back in the "olden days" we ate pie unless very well off. smile

We don't  have turkey for dinner as we prefer chicken and a piece of pork, all the usual trimmings though.

Rum butter always, we have it on warm mince pies. We also have rum sauce on the christmas pud. Dad was a rum man having been in the navy and OH has happily adopted our traditions wink Goldie will try your method of making it as our way is with icing sugar.

Personally I'm not a pork pie fan but Mum used to make her own and they were delicious.

Breakfast is nothing different, lunch usually around 2pm then if anyone can manage anything later its normally buffet type things sausage rolls, cheese and onion pie, sandwiches and of course trifle and brandy snaps.
