I seem to have volunteered myself to do a Ploughman's Lunch for 20 people this coming Tuesday Surprised

It needs to be fairly substantial  .... not just bread. cheese and chutney Laughing

What would you say makes a good Ploughman's?

Scotch eggs are a great idea Happy  I'll make some tomorrow.

I was thinking about tiny vine tomatoes and sliced apple?  I also have a gammon joint in the fridge, so could cook that and serve in slices Undecided

I thought a ploughman's was a hunk of bread, slab of cheese and chutney.  I suppose these days you could add leaves, tomatoes, celery, radish and other salad ingredients. Scotch eggs and slices of gammon ought to make it substantial. How did you find yourself is this predicament?

Not entirely ploughmans traditional, but I've never known anyone turn their nose up at a giant vat of homemade potato salad or coleslaw... your lunch sounds yummy, good luck!Happy

I often find myself in these predicaments Bakers Laughing  It's usually pie & peas suppers, or afternoon teas... or birthday cakes Laughing When I'm asked to do these things, I just can't say no (unless we're away in the caravan of course) Smile

Spare a thought for the poor sods who react badly to gluten. No chunks of lovely fresh bread, no pork pie and no beer !

Bugger !

Before I retired I was a Head Chef and our Ploughmans consisted of a piece of cheese with 1/4 of a pear, 1 slice of ham ( rolled up) 2 pickled onions, 1 boiled egg and about a tblsp of chutney or Branson type pickle plus 1/2 a baguette with butter. The homemade Coleslaw someone mentioned would be a bonus to any Ploughmans.
