In praise of British Cheese

Having just returned from the self styled capital of the cheese world, namely France, I would like to say how much we love British Cheese. Yes, we did enjoy many different types of French Cheese and count some of them among our own favourites but I don't think British Cheeses get the plaudits they deserve.

Nothing tastes quite like a really good Cheddar, our current one is Colliers (a Welsh one), or a Blackstick Blue or a Shropshire Blue or Mrs. Applebys Cheshire or a creamy Lancashire. Plus we are prepared to experiment with our cheese, by putting chilli or mustard etc. in. There are some smashing local entrepreneurs making cheese these days.

Why are our cheese not more respected?

Somehow, cheese seems more salty than it used to be.

Only  just  noticed  this  post !

Now  I'm  wondering  if  a  scrape  of  cheese

and  a  dribble  of   cider  would  go  down  well

on  my  fish  &  chip  tea  tomorrow   undecided   ??

Thanks  for  the  suggestion  KjellNN,  tho'  now  I'm  wondering

if  just  the  though  could  give  me  indigestion   embarassed frown  ?

I could live off cheese and particularly love a good mature cheddar.  I've had English, New Zealand and others over the years.  I also enjoy blue cheeses, the smellier the better.

Very  sorry  I  missed  you  Merve,  indeed  I  never  saw  a  single  person  from  CAMC  that  I  knew,  they  must  have  found  handy  hidey  holes  !!

Despite  that,  and  the  "Announcement"  there  was  ample  room  on  the  Club  Stand  ( seats  & tables )  for  me  to  enjoy  my  Coffee  and  Danish  ,, ,, ,, ,, ,, ,, ,,

P.S.  --  you  would  not  recognise  me  now   after  the   "Spring  Shearing",  New  Specs  &  CT Polo  tucked  away  'til  next  time  !!wink

I'd forgotten about this thread.  I like cheese from everywhere (including Snowdonia!!! ABM!).  I also like St Agur - the best French Cheese IMHO.  I do like a Camembert, but prefer it done on the BBQ.

We're on a site in Shropshire at the moment and bought a beautiful Shropshire Blue from a deli counter at a farm shop. Creamy with a lovely tang.

Mrs.WN doesn't like too much blue in her blue cheese, if that makes sense, so I get the bluest bits. Perfect.
