Isn't this getting a bit boring now?

As if yet another prime time weekend show fronted by Ant & Dic wasn't bad enough, I understand the highlight of ITV's weekend will be an interview with a rather whingey, highly privileged, publicity shy ginger haired guy? A guy who was so publicity averse that he emigrated with his family to keep them out of the public eye but now finds it convenient to plug his ghost written biography as a follow up to his self publicising 6 part revelatory series on a popular streaming  channel? Do we really need to know that his older brother had a bigger bedroom when they were boys, or pushed him over so that he got scratches on his back.

Think it's time to wish the guy and his family the very best of luck in their new life in the States, but, for goodness sake, please just leave us to get on with our lives at a difficult time for all those of us not lucky enough to have the same advantages! yell

Rant over! laughing

As TTDA said above, PH is not being well advised.

What I find surprising is that neither his experienced Pulitzer Prize winning ghost writer, nor his editor, nor his agent, nor the lawyers at Penguin Random House cautioned and advised against the inclusion of his claim about the Taliban killings. Perhaps most surprisingly of all (shockingly even) is the latter.

I suspect that he may well have been advised against many of the claims he makes; there is no way we will ever know. But at the end of the day he must have made that decision; he could easily have avoided mentioning it in the terms he apparently did during the interview.

However, Paul Merton & his OH were on CT motorhoming in the Cotswolds at the time which was very entertaining and informative - I mean, I never realised it was possible to do without EHU for a night! laughing

It's a situation entirely of their own making.

Money aside, was it, or was he driven to it by the tabloids?

It’s still of their own making, PD. Nobody twisted their arms.

Easilly said when it is not you involved. The first driving force was probably money, the second was definitely driven by the tabloids. He still has three outstanding cases against the press who he clearly dislikes for what a nd how they they print a story.

No, it’s easy to act in a moral way, PD, and your last sentence sums up the double standards at play.

But We're not talking about someone who had no money and no job to start with. As posted somewhere upthread he was left a vast sum of money (£30m was it?).

He had a 'job' and decided to leave it and wanted to live independently for reasons valid to him. He then acted immorally by selling family stories to make money.

Are the tabloids funding this book of his?

I have not watched any of the Netfilix programs or Opra or bothered keeping up with the papers which I don't read but I did watch the interview with Tom Brady on catch up this morning. I have a lot of sympathy for his views on the press and his need to defend himself but as to what goes on between him and the family, who knows what is the truth and there certainly was no need for revelations or to go into print about it.

Unfortunately we can't choose our parents so we can't walk in the shoes of those who've had such a public upbringing with higher than most expectations. Let's hope the press and media step away soon. I've only seen the snippets on the news and the BBC web site although I read the first "ghosted" book about the move abroad and there really is a non stop publicity machine at work. Here's to a peaceful ending. 🌼
