El Camino

Has anyone else been enjoying The Pilgrimage series by the BBC following the walk to Santiago with several people, known and not so well known. I've really enjoyed the conversations and filming of the various places. The film called "The Way" followed the same route and I enjoyed watching it too, I think that was done in 2010. Anyone been to Santiago de Compostela? smile

The Camino is something I am familiar with because many years ago my eldest son walked the entire length from the French border. I must admit that I was initially a bit dismissive of the programme but Margaret persuaded me to have a look and I have to say I have enjoyed it. I half expected it to be another of those "celebrity " type programmes but I have also enjoyed the conversations and my fears have not been borne out. I have not found any of the participants to be divas or overbearing which I think adds some gravitas to the proceedings.  Of course the scenery is wonderful.

Visited Santiago for the day just over a year ago when our cruise ship stopped at La Coruna. I can also recommend watching "The Way", a most interesting film. In many ways, the Camino is more about self-discovery on the journey rather than the destination.

We are watching it and enjoying seeing all the places along the way, surprised they didn't stop in Burgos. We were going to Compostella the other year when OH took ill so still have to get back to it.

Watched the last episode tonight and thought it a thoroughly enjoyable series despite my initial reservations. It almost made me want to do the walk myself, just a shame that my knees wouldn't be up to it.

I enjoyed the series, purely for the walk and the scenery but the closing stages was like the M25 pedestrian version. I would leave the end bit out and go visit Fisterra by car.

It was a good, interesting short series, I didn't stay up to watch "The Way" which was on later but that was an equally enjoyable film about the camino too.

Having seen it some years earlier, I did enjoy watching it again. Pity it was on so late. It deserves a wider audience.
