Back in Time for Christmas

We watched the previous series, Back in Time for Dinner, where the family 'lived' in each decade since the 1940's.  Now they're having Christmas in each decade.

They're such a lovely family, and manage to make everything they experience seem enjoyable.  They find the best, even in the times of rationing, and politcal incorrectness!

I'm watching it too.  I'm more than surprised at some of the props wireless next to the bed and another on the mantle in the 50's house and wireless on the bedside table in 60's.  Must have been richer homes than I've ever visited.  Telephone the same.  Maybe I'm being too picky but I'm fascinated how those who weren't around in those days perseve how it would have been.  Yet other props like the actual decorations are spot on.

I enjoyed it but it seemed to miss that depth of winter feeling and Christmas visitors. I liked hearing Lionel Blair talking about the air raids and life in the shelters.

How times and attitudes change. I can remember the sweet smoking set, can almost taste the cheap chocolate pipe even now. My older sisters both had Dancette record players.

I watched it too and loved it.  As ValDa says they are such a lovely family and seem game to try anything. We did have a little radio by the bed in the 60s and also in most rooms - but no TV until the late 60s. I also had a Dansett record player. I remember the sparkly silver Christmas trees!
