Just heard the sad news that Alan Rickman - star of Harry Potter (Sevarus Snape) and Love Actually + many other films - has died at the age of 69 from cancer.  Another very sad loss.  RIP.

Oh that's sad I remember seeing him on the stage at Stratford when he was young  (and I was too!) I saw him out and about locally away from the theatre. He had a wonderful character part in the Barchester Chronicles and I loved his part in the film Truly Madly Deeply. A really talented actor with a long successful career.

Very very sad news. One of my favourite actors. I read his biography a good while ago, and always look out for his films. Many were never the massive blockbuster types, like Harry Potter or Die Hard, but he was a brilliant villain, and sensitive soul in a lot of other good films. He won a BAFTA for Robin Hood, and apparently they cut quite a few of his scenes as the Sherriff because he was in danger of upstaging Kevin Costner! Very great loss to acting and directing, at such a young age!Sad

Brilliant as sherriff of Nottingham really enjoyed the film because of him,  such a loss to the acting world and of course his family

I think he and has wife Rima had been together since they were in their late teens. A devoted and lovely couple, such a rarity in what can be a rather shallow entertainment world.

I loved him as the marvellously obsequious  Mr Slope in Barchester Chronicles. We have the DVD so must watch it again. Such a wonderfully talented actor. Another terrible shock this week.

Yes we have an old video of Barchester Chronicles as well. I have the Rasputin film he did with Greta Scattchi somewhere as well!
