Joss Naylor - an unfamiliar name to most - but fell runner extraordinaire has died at the age of 88. He lived an unbelievably active life, putting many, probably most of his juniors to shame. I had the pleasure of competing against him, needless to say unsuccessfully,  many years ago. A remarkable man, a true hero of the fells.

Joss Naylor RIP.

Definitely one or the the greats, if not the greatest, of all fell runners. Have espied him from afar on the odd occasion. He raised huge amounts of money for charity in his lifetime, and was an inspiration to many.

RIP Joss.

In my youth I worked in Caldbeck where he and his family were from and the local community then held him in high regard, a legend on the fell. He held many records but the astounding one for me was the coast to coast run from St Bees to Robin Hoods Bay taking in several peaks on route. Not sure but I think his record for this still stands. From a youth who suffered with dodgy knees and cartilage problems, including several leg related operations, he didn’t do badly.
