May I encourage everyone to lookout for events in their area that are supporting National Transplant Week 7 – 13th July.

I had a Kidney Transplant 21 years ago (last April) and not only did it literally save my life, but allowed me to see my 2 sons grow up, graduate from university, get married, see my 4 grandchildren plus of course remain with my lovely caring wife.

At the moment there are 6999 kidney patients waiting for transplant and 300 die each year while on the transplant list. Then of course there are the more harrowing cases of those who require heart, liver, pancreas, lung transplants. Sadly they have no alternative, if they are to survive than a transplant.

That’s why I am asking everyone to sign up to the Organ Donor Register today. I know many people find it difficult but try and put yourself, if possible, in the situation that all those needing transplants are in. Impossible I know but try.

I always ask people “if you would be prepared to accept a transplant, why wouldn’t you want to give one?”

Thank you from the bottom of my heart to all those who have already signed up to the register but if you haven’t please go to www.organdonation.nhs.uk/how_to_become_a_donor
