Hi I've just acquired a 2002 petrol Autocruise  Starspirit Motorhome and planning a trip round the UK and wondering if anyone has or had one and could give me some idea of what MPG I should expect as how many weeks I spend away depends in some part on running cost she is in good order only done 17.000 any advise will be much appreciated .

Skywavemike, if you put this question in the motorhome section of the main discussion forum you'll probably get replies. Unfortunately this is the story section.

Mike,  you  are  more  likely  to  find  accurate  information  on  the  Autocruise  Owners  or  Autocruise  Starspirit  web  sites ( should  they  exist  undecided )  purely  because  those  sites  will/may  have  more  owners  of  a  specific  motorhome  than  this  'general'  club  site.

I've had 6 motorhomes since 1995, all Fiat based and all have averaged 28mpg. If I drove hard into the wind or in hilly terrain, each one did around 25mpg. If I was on rolling, good roads and averaging 50mpg, I've always managed to sneak above 30mpg.

Driving style and weather seem to be the variables that affect fuel consumption. I think you'll be able to find a style of driving that gives you between 25mpg and 28.

When we started motorhoming 30 odd years ago we always had petrol engines but seldom got over 20 mpg and that was on panel vans I would think it would be worse on a coachbuilt like the starspirit. We get 30 plus from our present diesel coachbuilt. hope that does not put you off.

My 6M 3500Kg MTPLM low profile van generally turns in around 32mpg. although on the last tankful coming back from Colchester round the M25/A3 to Portsmouth produced 35mpg, the best I've ever had.

Mine shows mid 30s, but can get up to 40mpg on Motorways and sticking to 50/55mph. Its 2.2Turbo diesel, Peugeot

Err, the OP is asking about likely MPG from his petrol engined MH. I reckon our diesel powered motors will leave him green with envy in terms of MPG.

Ahh, I missed that. Best solution is to probably buy shares in Exxon or BP. At least the dividends will help offset the costs.
