Will you go

As soon as the lockdown is lifted.I ask because both my husband and I are over seventy and my husband has been notified that he is very vulnerable because of some health issues.I was thinking maybe a fully serviced pitch where we can use our own facilities?

So, your car breaks down. How isolated are you then?

It all depends how desperate you are to go away, if you are willing to gamble with your lives then do it. Asking anyone else to make the decision for you is rather strange to be honest. Please do the thinking for yourself around your own personal circumstances, it makes much better sense. Don’t mean to sound blunt, but this is how I arrive at such an important choice๐Ÿ™‚

We will go when the sites open again but of course will be careful. When away we normally do a lot of cycling and walking and are generally happy in our own company sitting in/outside the van reading ect. I’d like to think we will get away in the next 2-3 months but certainly wouldn’t bet on it

As soon as the lockdown is lifted?  I think it will be a gradual process rather than going from lockdown to no lockdown overnight and I doubt that opening campsites will be one of the first priorities.

The other thing is that you say that your husband is classed as vulnerable and therefore I assume that he is in the "shielding" category and having to stay at home for 12 weeks.  Surely, however much you want to go away, do you really think that once the lockdown is lifted, any risk of getting the virus will disappear?

I think you really know the answer to your question but was hoping someone would say: yes, go for it.  It's your own decision and yours alone, not for anybody here to judge.

I don't think Caravanners/Mhers are going to be welcomed with open arms as soon as the lockdown is lifted and as said upthread Campsites will not be a priority.

I'm just taking each day as it comes. If things go well then we might get away much later in the year but I'll have to see how Joe Public is behaving first.

Isn't it strange how peoples priorities differ.

Everyone on here is very philosophical about all of this and yet over on the CAMC Facebook page people are raving about these discounted night vouchers. How many they've bought, how much they've saved and that they can't wait to get away to use them even to the point of where they are going and when.

Aren't people funny

Fingers crossed then that the CC survives to be able to use the vouchers .... ๐Ÿ™„๐Ÿ™„

It’s worth bearing in mind that there’s no time limit, regarding vouchers. I’ll be buying some, and use them...sometime.

When we do go away in the van again, it is likely to be to five van sites or a no facilities club site from where we can walk. It will be a long time before using shared facilities in toilet blocks is acceptable for us. Perhaps blocks will remain shut for a while even when sites re-open. We seldom eat or drink out when away or even at home so that won't be an issue for us and a supermarket is a supermarket wherever it is in the country. When will that be ? Who knows ? Perhaps August, maybe later, maybe next year, and even then, I suspect it will be a long time before it is the same as it has been...  frown

As soon as lockdown is lifted

Too much speculation as far as I'm concerned and until we as a nation have met the government's five criteria for some form of ''staged' unlock, I will not be venturing out to any five van sites, or indeed, anywhere until it's safe to do so i.e. there's a vaccine available or no further threat from the virus.

I can imagine when unlock arrives, hordes of numpties jumping up and down like children being released from a school playground. Sadly a few will utilise the Club's sites, which, oddly enough, will still be there next year  Because of this deadly virus - a few of us will not.

Stay safe

Whilst I accept that we are slightly biased in our view, I'm not quite sure why campsites should be a low priority for re-opening. Subject to toilet blocks being closed, it is possible to maintain social distancing in such an environment far more easily than other venues. Whether minimal shopping would help the local economy is debatable plus it is unlikely that the majority of tourist attractions would be near the top of the list.

You may well call me a numpty but once the lock down is lifted we will go away in the van. We will go somewhere fairly remote, use our own facilities and observe social distancing.  We will take enough food etc., to remain self sufficient.

Before that of course we will need to get the van rebooked for service
