UK staycation boom predicted

I wonder if any leader of a G7 country, had they been hosting the conference, would cancel it? On a slightly different tack, if the restrictions are still in force, will all the guests be required to quarantine for 10 days prior to the meeting in a hotel, at their own expense of course?

In answer to your first question, assuming holding the event flies in the face of the rules/laws applicable to the general public in the country in question, I think cancelling would be the ultimate measure in earning respect of the populace as it would demonstrate the 'all in it together' approach. It would be practising what the leader preached.

Failure to cancel, in the same circumstances, would deem that leader a hypocrite lacking in integrity.

Regardless of Covid and the rules and laws affecting the general public many many things need to continue.  For example critical services need to continue, locally, county wide, and country wide, also internationally.  The same applies to international diplomacy in all it's forms.  The need for the G7 to take place is not something that can be binned.  Carbis Bay, Cornwall and the UK should embrace the opportunity.  It won't return for many years.

We have a few CLs and 1 site booked for the end of April (if we are allowed) Having just had our first jab today that puts us around the 6th May for our second jab if it goes all the way to 12 weeks, if a bit earlier that will mean having to move a few things around or make a drive home without the caravan.

We still have a Bilbao ferry booked for end April but that isn't going to happen so not to worried about that, its a flexi booking so can move it nearer the time or wait and see if they are going to cancel. The tunnel booking that has also been carried over since last year will hopefully get extended again. If all is going well we will go away to France/Spain later in the year.

In the meantime I will look out somemore CLs/sites in the UK, all the ones I have looked at so far are all offering refunds/amendments should we not be able to go due to restrictions etc. so happy to go ahead and make bookings.

Yes, absolutely. My previous supportive comments seem to have disappeared, but it’s a great opportunity for Cornwall. Definitely an opportunity and something to be embraced. Much easier to manage from a safety perspective than hordes of tourists.

The G7 will be a nightmare for those holidaying in West Penwith while it is on. The security will be immense and much of the area around Carbis Bay will be a no go area.

This brings me on to what will be your strategy for avoiding the crowds this summer assuming we can get about in the not too distant future. I will certainly be avoiding peak times and even outside these times I will be looking to stay at the less popular sites i.e. low or no facility sites away from the hot spots. Just to be able to have a change of scenery would be good.

3 days minor disruption for some tourists -v- opportunity to promote an area with much to offer on the world stage? ...hmmm, let me think about that one.

So we won't be able to do one of our favourite walks then, from Lelant along Porth Kidney Sands and on to St Ives via Carbis Bay then? That's a shame! wink

If and when we can get away our tactics won't be all that much different from normal - coastal and hill walking away from the crowds and maybe the occasional meal out at places we know are taking appropriate precautions. Probably more time than usual down in Cornwall as we won't be going abroad anywhere and hopefully the two cottage breaks we have carried over from last year will go ahead. smile
