Trees, trees and more trees

Have just stayed at West Ayton site again after a break of 18 years. I remember that in those days the site was in its infancy and it had young saplings around the edge and around the various tiers. I have stayed on sites where there is little protection from the winds and have seen awnings damaged as a result, so trees are a good thing. However, it is my preference that a pitch should have a reasonable amount of sun. Nice to enjoy a glass or two sitting outside in the sun. On arrival at West Ayton, I noticed how things had changed and now the sites are surrounded by high trees cutting out the sun. During our stay, work began to trim the hedges, which are now dwarfed by the trees. I understand that they are getting prices from outside sources for the trimming of the trees, this wil no doubt be expensive. With modern technology, google earth etc it is nowossible to see over the site before visiting. The trees will generally cast a good shadow as will the caravans, so it is possible to get a feel of how much sunlight can be expected and also possible to have thoughts on actual sites I would like subject to availability. Now many sites are well established, preventative maintenance could save the club a good deal of money.
