Touring in the winter

Hi all, we have recently purchased a sprite major 6 for my wife and I, 2 kids and a little dog.  We have spent the last 2 weekends away - 1st at Lomond Woods near Loch Lomond and the 2nd at Woods Caravan Park near Alloa - both were excellent in their own ways.

We are considering storing the van indoors over the winter period, however I have spoken to a few folk who mentioned that they go away over the weekends no matter the time of year.

Is this something thats common in Northern England and Scotland?
