The saving of pitches - should it happen here?

When we booked our site pitch using the Camping Cheque Gold Card service (free booking, no deposit). We informed a German couple, who we met in Holland a few years ago, that we would be staying at this site, they replied back that it would be nice to meet up again, they live a two hours drive from the site. When we left the Czech Republic, a quick text with an ETA of around 4.00pm (309 mile drive).

On arrival at the site reception we gave our booking reference and were told to go to pitch C5, a premium riverside pitch. Yes, the German couple arrived the day before us and saved us  the pitch, then sorted it out with reception. When we got to the pitch, what a welcome and the tankard was topped up while setting up.

There was a supplement to pay on top of the camping cheques, but a good pitch with lovely views. Passengers in the cruise boats sailing up and down the River Main could say hello and cheers when sat outside having a drink. I did disagree when I heard a commentary to the passengers when reference was made to the castle on the hill further down river; “….…………..and here is a camping place for travellers”!!

The site; Camping Azur, Werthiem, Germany.
