How about an entertainment allowance for Club site wardens to spend ? On a recent summer evening the owner and staff of the village site down in Eygalieres put out a general invitation for everyone on site to join them for an aperitif "devant les sanitaires". They introduced us to cold vin rose laced with grapefruit juice - dangerously drinkable stuff. French, Brits, Belgians and Dutch talked long and loud. By 9pm. Ken from Cheshire was adressing me in broken French as he'd become convinced I was Dutch. All so different from Club sites where everyone sits in their own big white caravan and watches TV. Would an entertainment allowance for wardens willing to try to do something to promote friendliness and socialability be worth trying ? A group barbecue perhaps, a boules match, or just a few more boxes of vin rose pamplemousse. Staying on a Club site is pretty cheerless these days.
