This has often occured to me but a recent trip to York has spurred me on enough to try the forums on this one.  Am I the only one who finds club information rooms full of information you dont need, but lacking the stuff you do ?

In York I was first struck that there was no OS map on the wall, and then that all the leaflets were very generic - I bet the same ones are in every site in Yorkshire if not the whole North of England.  You had to really search for anything truly local i.e. within 5 miles like the York Dungeons - there was little or nothing on boat trips, the Archbishops Palace, local bus services etc.  Although there were some boxes of the suggested Sustrans route from the site (on the floor), there wasnt even a display copy of the York cycle routes map.

I did notice a Go Ape leaflet and checked that the nearest location was over 40 miles away - now maybe as we're in a motorhome I'm biased, but this doesnt count as local infomation to me.

So here's my starter for 10 on what SHOULD be in the Information Room :-

1 - OS MAP on the wall

2 - local map with pubs and shops within 5 miles, including opening hours, and whether pub takes children and/or dogs

3 - bus/train information

4 - local cycling  / walking information (like the one in Wharfedale for example that is on the wall on the toilet block)

5 - local attractions - i.e. those within 5/10 miles

Any more ?
