According to the booking’s calendar Sandringham Club Site will close for the foreseeable future on 31st September this year. Does anyone have knowledge of what’s happening there? I’ve searched all the usual places for information but there’s no mention of it anywhere. It’s not listed on the 2023 list of redevelopments.

I'm sorry but I haven't a clue but am replying to move this back onto the front page in the hope someone might know.

The people who are likely to know will be the wardens and it's properly best to give them a call.

I recal reading on the Camping Club forum that Temporary Holiday Sites across Norfolk had been cancelled including Sandringham. Something to do with new legislation that local authorities could invoke relating to proximity to Sites of Special Scientific Interest.

Is this another another instance of an absence of communication from the CAMC?  Wouldn't be at all surprised. Is the C&CC site next door also closed?

My dummy booking at the C&CC site for the first week of October threw up no indication of closure. 🤷🏻‍♂️

The CAMC webpage shows Sandringham closing on 30 Sept but no indication if that’s for this season or whatever.

Just had a nosey myself. Says closed and continues to say that right through to May 2024 - latest you can book in advance.

I think you may have hit the nail on the nail......

The Camping Club give some information here SSSI-Comms-to-all-Club-Units-Mar-23.

An extract that may be relevant is "In the worst-case scenario this could be that certain venues are no longer viable due to the possible impact camping may have on the concerns the Local Authority have identified.
However, the most common route is that in order to use land in this area for a Club Camping Event, a mitigation payment can be made to cover the time on site and any detrimental impact.
Unfortunately, Natural England have not decreed what the mitigation payment process or
amounts should be and allow the Local Authorities to set this charge and mechanism."

Anybody got a booking for later than September, say Xmas, and had it cancelled? I know a few CT members who regularly spend Xmas there so can anyone throw light on this?

Previously Sandringham has been open all year so closing on 30th September is a change. Is it possible that the site is being upgraded although there is no mention of that happening here

An update from CMC central.

“The reason for this is that the site is due to undergo redevelopment next year. We will of course update the membership when we know more about the time-scales for this.

Our nearest Club site to Sandringham is our Thetford Forest Club Campsite, which is just over 20 miles away. This site is open until the 31st October, and can provide you with a nearby option for another month after Sandringham temporarily closes.”
